I’ve done it!

I’m not sure if it’s really up and running or if I’ve just imagined it all…

but I’ve done it!

It took me a week because I dithered around waiting to take some better photographs of some items, but it’s been cold, dark and dreary here so I kept putting it off because I like to take my photographs outside and I don’t like to be cold.

In the end I just decided that if I didn’t publish it now it wouldn’t get published at all because, knowing me, I would keep on putting it off until another year had gone.

Then another.

I’ve still got to work on the SEO’s etc., but I’ve decided that I need to take a break from it for a while else my brain will explode. I have yet to figure out what to do about Etsy, etc., but I just can’t think about that right now as seriously I need a cup of tea or five.

Anyhoo, any critique would be welcome, just so long as you’re gentle with me.

I’m feeling a bit protective of my baby right now as she’s so brand new…

;)

Here she is…

Cold Feet Studio

(Should I change my name?)

About coldfeetstudio

I am English, but live in Houston, TX. I have a degree in Sculpture. I love to make art. I sell my art for charity as I believe there should be no reason for someone to go hungry in this world. Name is good, very easy to remember. I vote keep. Totally get you, I think. After reading previous posts and questioning my work and finally deciding to keep doing what I love (metal) and when I’m dead, folks can call me the crazy metal chicken lady and come raid my house.

I think it’s fabulous! Beautifully done. Easy to navigate, all the right information seems to be there, the links all work, and it is spare and concise enough to be inviting (I see too many words I walk away, and too many images just looks messy and unfocused to me). The cart function seems like it would be very easy to use. I think you’ve got a home run there!! I love the name, by the way–I think it has great staying power in the mind, is easy to remember and spell (for getting the web address right), and there’s a charm about it. I wouldn’t change it unless you’re going for a total vibe/target market makeover.

ooh, selective apathy…I have that! I just love that listing for your aunt. The nice one.

I also love your work. However loose I try to get with my beaded work, it never looks as good as yours does. Thanks for your opinion. I really appreciate it :)

The new site looks great! Very clean design and easy to navigate! IMO, there are only two things missing – a link to your blog and a picture of you. It could be just me, but I always want to see a picture of the artist…
A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a company called Main Street Hosts. Of course they wanted me to hire them to do my SEO, but they offered a comprehensive site review and analysis for $5 and it was pretty interesting to see what I’m doing right and where I need to improve.
    No, don’t change your name!

    • coldfeetstudio

Oh that’s cool. I’ll check them out. I am thinking of linking my blog, but am not sure if it’s not a bit silly when I’m trying so hard to be a grown up jewelry maker… do people really want to read about all my mess ups and bad grammar lol

Love your name and also you do outstanding, beautiful work.

  • Lau

I absolutely love your work! Your new website is fantastic with great pics and easy to navigate. I think your name is great and no change is needed :) Thanks for sharing your work and your journey.

The site looks great! It’s clean, minimal and uncluttered….I like it a lot! The only problems I noticed are a few spelling errors, also the link to the Mail Chimp privacy policy doesn’t work, and that some of the pictures in the gallery section are grainy and unclear. Also I tested the checkout process by adding a couple items to my cart and clicking checkout. It took me to the Tictail home page. It was kind of confusing and not what I expected, so it made me wonder if I must sign up for an account on Tictail in order to make a purchase?

I like the name Cold Feet Studio. But it does make me contemplate on how you came up with it. Like I start to wonder if you have chronically cold feet, LOL! Which is not a bad thing….my feet are always cold! I have thought about changing the name of my business as well, to something that sounds more like a jewelry business. I mean Penny’s Treasures could be anything, it doesn’t necessarily make one think of jewelry. So I thought maybe Penny Cordova Designs would be better. What do you think?

    • coldfeetstudio

This is great Penny. Can you point out the spelling mistakes? And I’ll check into the Mail Chimp. The tictail thing worries me as that was my old website. I’ll look into that. When I do it on my end it seems fine, but that’s not o.k. The grainy pics are the ones I was waiting to go outside to retake, also the doodles, so I’ll be getting on to that as soon as the sun decides to change back to normal here in Houston. Geesh, does it think we like dreary!

Okay, English teacher here–under Payment Plan, you left out a C in cancel….; under Custom, you need to check that you’re not selling to ascetics (or some such), and under Jewelry Care you can check “guarantee.” Don’t ask why I can spot these errors in a sec when I read someone else’s words on a screen but can’t see my own! Editor’s disease, I guess.

      • coldfeetstudio

lol. Peter tells me that I write as I speak, and when I speak the old London grammar comes out. Also I can’t spell. O.K. I can spell I just sometimes get excited. Thanks :)

By the way, as an English teacher it must bring pain to you every time I write a post… sorry.

Love your new site – agree with the comments above – clean and concise! I would not change your name – I love it! I particularly like how you separated your items in each category: stones and silver.

I also tried to do a checkout – took me right to paypal, no problems whatsoever!

    Congratulations!!

  • Margaretha

Deborah, please do not change your name; the name makes me smile.
Your new website looks fabulous: clear, uncluttered, humorous, inviting, a pleasure to browse.
    Congratulations and Good Luck!

I’m amazed. I agree with the others, but especially like how concise you are in the descriptions and really like the layout. The photos look sharper, too. I wasn’t quite sure why you separated stones from silver (since all your work seems to have both), but it’s not a deal-breaker!

I really get a sense of who you are from the name (even if you don’t want to include a photo), so please don’t change it!

    • coldfeetstudio

This is brilliant. Thank you. I can’t believe that so many of you are willing to give me a hand :)

I’ve changed the typo’s you mentioned Gale. I’m sure there are more.

The reason I separated stones from silver is that the cabochons are chunkier than some of my other things, and I didn’t want the site to be too all over the place. Maybe silver isn’t the right word and something more appropriate will come to me later.

  • Fresh Baked Designs

Congratulations! I love the new site…clean, easy to navigate, great photos that show off the beauty front and back of pieces. There is a reason you chose the name…and the only reason I think a change is in order is if you feel that doesn’t apply to or express who you are anymore. Something to ponder. That said, I identify with the name too, because I (we all) have doubts sometimes. I appreciate your honesty about these doubts, struggles, and yes, triumphs! So, way to go!

  • Julia kovach

Ditto to all the comments above – looks great, easy to navigate, enough information! In a word “Fabulous!” I wouldn’t change a thing!

  • Eloise

Thumbs Up. Lovely website, keep the name, it is perfect.

  • Sally G

Wow! Super-professional-looking website! It doesn’t look as if it belongs to someone with cold feet, although I’ve always loved that name for your business. I can see why you are wondering about the name. It has seemed so “you,” but maybe you’re changing now. The website makes you look like a confident woman of the 21st century.

Will there be a link to your blog? Or will there be a new page for your blog on the new website? Either of those will help you with search engine optimization.

I have to admit I’m struggling with the font for your descriptions, especially on the “about” page where there’s a large block of it. On my computer, the top and bottom of the letters appear slightly darker than the sides. With that and the serif, I find it a little hard to read. Not that I CAN”T read it — I’m just thinking about people who will be introduced to you for the first time and who could be easily discouraged.

Layout is great, though. No problem there.

Congratulations on the exciting new step in your life. This is a wonderful start.

    • coldfeetstudio

Thank you Sally. I really appreciate that. Later today I’ll look into it and perhaps you can tell me what you think when I change it?

Also, you’re bang on with the name. I like it a lot, it’s fun and people remember it, but do people really want to buy more expensive jewelry from someone with cold feet? lol

      • Sally G

By all means, let me know, and I’ll take a look — although I’m sure it will be very good.

By the way, does Silver Deb Studio resound with you at all? Deb derives from both Deborah and Debut, the coming out of your jewelry line. Just a thought, in case you want the name to move on with the website.

  • Fiona Robertson

Congratulations and Good Luck with your new website…my only advice is not to grow up too much!! xx
